Big plans to intro boys to Harry Potter series fell flat when first chapter was boring. Will have to cook up own in medias res beginning.

Suggestion: start with the third book. It's good, and catches you up on major plot points.

I'm starting to wonder if the one book I read wasn't the first. I don't remember this first chapter at all.

I remember it well because @collision read it and got all the names wrong. (But no, the first book is super slow, it's a pain.)

It's a well-known phenomenon: you buy them a coveted gift, confident of its reception, only to find they prefer to play with the box.

«Le cœur a ses raisons que la raison ne connaît point», I suppose, about sums it up. Better just to shrug and chuckle and go along.
