Interesting test: how strong is the inverse correlation between dislike of someone and understanding of their work?
(E.g. Darwin in his day had a lot of what we'd now call haters, but zero of them understood him or his work.)

Do you think that's true? Back in the 19th century a lot of the best and brightest went into the clergy.

And the basic idea isn't that "hard to get" -- just very blasphemous. Compare to Luther: lots of haters, but hardly misunderstood.
