    It used to be if you bought a new computer after 6 years, it was way faster. I miss the old Moore's Law.

        most of you do now though is not local. So a faster computer won't get you faster tubes and make the clouds they connect to faster.

        servers have gone nuts on multi-cores, and that is just way too much heat for a laptop. Ideal for cloud but not great for local

        My 3yr old MacBook Pro has better CPU specs than current top model. 2.8ghz i7 16GB RAM 768GB SSD.

        clock speed is not everything. The process is super important (Skylake uses a 14nm process, Ivy Bridge is 22nm)

        Its all web apps these days. Broadband is the bottleneck. Unfortunately, Moore's Law doesn't apply to broadband speed.
