every city has some formal places. Pacific Union Club requires ties. That’s as relevant to SF's startup scene as Ritz is to London’s.

The Pacific Union Club is a private club, not a hotel.
-
of course, but difference is immaterial. Both it and the Ritz are for very different types of people than those in the startup scene
-
No fancy hotel is going to ban a big chunk of the richest people in town.
-
not sure I agree. Nightclubs turn away people in stuffy business suits. This is the same. Everywhere wants to set its own tone. (1/2)
-
Bottom line: Dress codes in some places ≠ not a startup city

right, because everyone should adapt to the almighty startup culture
-
Definitely not. But any startup hub would have.

clearly don't know what part of town the Ritz is in. If you're a startup you go to the

@sama The Ritz is a place for Russians and Arabs. Not a place to get any sense of 'London' - and there are many, many Londons -
also: seems a very SV perspective to think startups can only function in dress down mode.

I grew up in the SF Bay Area, live in the UK now. London has a thing called actual culture - look it up. Nothing to do with tech...

@sama Shallow plus incorrect. "No trainers" is a well-established marketing strategy to create air of exclusivity. c.f. nightclubs -
but the exclusivity filter would remove most startup-types, hence they're not optimizing for startups (bc not a hub)
-
But why Ritz even being discussed? It's a cheesy tourist trap. What next; moaning you can't do tech demos during Cats?

@sama Nope. London is just more than a one industry town. With A LOT more hotels than SFThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
