A big question about AI: Is it possible to be intelligent without also having an instinct for self-preservation?

why do we not want the machines to have a instinct for self-preservation? Why does humanity want to boss every other species.

actually self preservation is not a norm. We all die at 70-100 (used to be 35) so the next generation can live. Optimized for species

death is a bug/should be society's top priority to fix. If we're lucky life extension happens before we're gone forever.

Going to disagree. Death is a feature of life. It makes life better. Can we have ambition or urgency w/out?

why not? An AI isn't constrained by the impacts of evolution.

also, our emotions are likely a conduct of our brains architecture. AI emotions could be unique.

agree - plus we already know emotions are hackable via chemicals which just alter brain activity.

Given our bias sample of intelligent beings, any form of generalization based on this data may turn out to be far from reality.

biological life only got to where it is because of the 'multiply' trait. AI is following a different route.
