intelligent is easy, the real question is can you be conscious? I'd say yes.

There should be no threat from that which augments and it gets better if AI can't replace some human functions...

self preservation is a pretty easy algorithm, but why would it matter for intelligence/consciousness?

propogation of thought patterns = preservation of self. But as effect, not motivation.

depends what we are looking for the AI to do.
