Also, subscribing itself is work. On one site I checked recently it was 23 fields IIRC.

this is true, but there's usually an initial set up cost for any utility: power, Internet, insurance, information, etc.

an umbrella paywall would be amazing. Every time I change devices and forget wsj username it's frustrating

that's silly. It's work to remember you're subscribed to NYT, WSJ, & FT? Is it work to remember you autopay electric bill?
