I will go out on a limb and say Austin has zero chance of being a serious startup hub without Uber and Lyft. (I am an investor in neither.)

fair point, but by same token, too early to write off? It's a (temporary) loss but startup volume is up & 150 people move here daily

I never said instantly. But as years pass it gets increasingly implausible to be both a startup hub and not have U/L.

U/L in Austin is more about local politics than innovation. Folks outside of Austin didn't see that unfold but it was ugly here.
