@paulg wouldn’t ‘senior’ people bring more bureaucratic bogus..?

@echezbro They are usually aware of that danger. They know startups are different. -

@paulg That’s not just coming from junior people; that’s more likely to come from “seniors” who think they know how to do things. -
@tedneward But both they and the founders hiring them tend to be aware of that danger. -
@paulg Ehhhh….. Not always. And juniors typically have less preconceptions and less investment in doing things any particular way.

@paulg "when is it safe to hire someone from Goldman or McKinsey" is a big decision for startups -

@carribeiro@paulg interestingly had a great experience w/ that. Also believe folks from McKinsey etc have huge value -but where/when = hard -

@tommyrva 1) hiring for position: "This guy held this job so I'll hire him". Often bad as the hire brings big co practices before time. -
@tommyrva 2) hiring for potential: "this guy never had a chance let's hire him". It may turn out the hire was never very good to start with. - 1 more reply

@paulg Ultimately is it better to work at a big company before founding your own? That way, you can see what does and doesn't work. -
@JakeCahan@paulg work at a small one and see how a company is made, you can't learn that at a large company, there far past that point. - 1 more reply
