The #1 reason I won't subscribe to the NYT, WSJ, FT etc is that auto-renewals mean an extra thing I have to think about.

The money is not the problem. The problem is the amount of work it takes to be their customer.

@paulg it's time for micropayments. I have always said they will not work. I think they can work now +/- 3 years. Apple Pay, Amazon etc.

@paulg Surely auto renewal is less work than choosing to pay every article. Keeping track of auto renewals is a feature banks could address.

@paulg pay per article promotes bad journalism as articles that are more popular will gain priority, news reporting will trend to LCD

@paulg Interesting. Would you advise a similar startup not to do auto-renewals?

@MattKrisiloff @paulg the papers require a phone call to cancel. Startups should make it easy to cancel, don't incite already unhappy users.

@zackkanter @paulg I can cancel NYTimes online. But no auto-renewal->easier customer aq vs auto-renewal->retention seems interesting to try.
