The money is not the problem. The problem is the amount of work it takes to be their customer.

@paulg it's time for micropayments. I have always said they will not work. I think they can work now +/- 3 years. Apple Pay, Amazon etc. -
@anshublog It's been time. I've been wanting to fund this startup for about 9 years. -
@paulg saw your tweet about micro payments yesterday. Did you check our company http://Blendle.com ?http://www.politico.eu/article/the-dutch-tech-whiz-who-could-save-journalism/ …

@paulg you do realize that the "auto" in auto-renewal would suggest the exact opposite of your premise. -
@peter Auto means less work, but not less attention. If you're being billed ongoing for something, you have to think about it. -
@peter Wouldn't it seem gross to you to sign up for some site, forget you signed up for it, and only realize 10 years later? -
-
@RyanNegri@paulg that and ppl are still on dial up.

@paulg Under what circumstances would you not renew NYT? -
@StevenLevy If I didn't read enough articles.

@paulg you have to make a phone call to cancel NYT -
@andrewhyde Really? That is exactly the sort of thing I mean. You know it's not because they can't figure out how to make it easier. -
@paulg yep. No upsell when I canceled but no way to manage the account online. -
@andrewhyde@paulg reminds me of how AOL dialup is still like an 8 figure business.

@paulg what would be the option that will work or you? 1 yr 1 pay no renewal? -
@mvrtxn Paying per article would be the best. -

@paulg “auto-renewal” ….. “amount of work” …. What? -
@TylerGalpin@paulg didn't you pay for something for two years you weren't using anymore because you forgot about the auto-renewal? -
@TimWatson Exactly it was no work -
@TylerGalpin his point was that it takes attention, not work -
@TimWatson but it didn't take my attention at all for two years -
@TylerGalpin to manage correctly, it takes attention -
@TimWatson u takin my attention right now son
