I rewrote the first section of the inequality essay by macroexpanding the two metaphors that made people mad: http://paulgraham.com/ineq.html

@tqbf It's an important topic and practically everyone who writes about it gets it wrong. I wanted these points at least to be out there.

@paulg "rising economic inequality is inevitable" -- you still don't get it. Taxes do help there and the rich *should* be heavily taxed.

@paulg seems like the lean approach to writing an essay. Publish the first version and iterate depending on the feedback. Kudos ;)

@paulg what % of Y Combinator founders start companies in order to "get rich"? Seems like many of them end up giving $ away.

@paulg You skip over all the advances in value which didn't increase the wealth significantly. Incl. those that made startups much cheaper.

@paulg That being said, I agree with you that wealth inequality is inevitable. If we try removing it, it will just change forms as always.

@paulg It would be more interesting if you provided analysis of the actual policy referred to as "reducing inequality"

@paulg people did not get mad, they disagreed. You believe you are right but you aren't, that's all.
