@paulg You should judge your success by the quality of the best refutations, not the volume of the worst. Truthfulness isn't voted upon.

@harryh Good point. But it at least means there are no glaring mistakes. -
@paulg "economic inequality is bad and should be eliminated" <-- reduced != eliminated. Very glaring mistake. VERY. -
@harryh A lot of people believe the ideal to aim for is zero inequality. It was the default view of the English left in the 1970s. -
@paulg I don't think it's a common viewpoint in the US today. Certainly not common enough to be especially worth arguing against. -

@paulg I think mostly it means folks got mad, not anything good or bad about your correctness. -
@kragen When people get mad, at least some of them look for something to refute. -
@paulg I'm not sure any correlation beyond just more people reading it is positive. Mad people get dumb. -
@paulg I thought Seth Bannon's response was the least bad of a mostly pretty worthless set of responses. -
@paulg But I wouldn't expect to see thoughtful rebuttals within the same weekend. Those take time, even if you're wrong. -
@paulg I saw@baconmeteor glibly dismiss it. He could presumably craft a highly entertaining and urbane rebuttal. I hope to read it. -
@baconmeteor Of course, you could still do that even if@paulg is right. But if he's wrong, it's badly needed. -
@kragen arguing with Paul Graham is as rewarding and enjoyable as getting in a fistfight with a vat of bread dough. - 4 more replies

@paulg IMO, the mistake was suggesting that anyone serious has it as a primary goal to "eliminate income equality." -
@paulg Nobody serious says: our goal is a gini coefficient of zero. It could've been improved by highlighting the language we use vs goals. -
@paulg it doesn't make your argument wrong, but IMO it's far less persuasive than it could be. YMMV.
