Microsoft could probably hurt Google more by shutting down Bing (and exposing Google to antitrust action) than by continuing to work on it.

(Realized this when telling someone about something being the top search result, wondering if I had to add "on Google," deciding I didn't.)

@paulg On that thought, what made Mobile Safari different from 90s Internet Explorer re:antitrust? Seems like a double standard, no?

@m3hr @paulg Worse than that. With the Appstore lockdown and preventing Amazon from selling eBooks - there is plenty by the 90s standards

@paulg agreed but Microsoft can never do that - Bing data quietly powers almost everything they do now

@paulg Probably, but likely that strategy won't last too long. Apple Search is quietly taking off too, becoming an alternative viable excuse

@paulg I propose the theory that Google & MS have a secret agreement. MS keeps Bing running in exchange for Google keeping GoogleApps crappy

@paulg Not exactly, as law frowns on anti-competitive actions as a monopoly. You also assume Bing's current purpose is to hurt Google.
