@paulg how many people actually have chosen not to become billionaires? Craig Newmark, maybe Jimmy Wales?

@mattknox It's so hard that it would have to be someone who was already on the path then turned from it. -
-
@mattknox I would guess a small number of shareholders are milking it for revenues for as long as they can. -
@paulg today, sure. But ten years ago, it could have made a ton more money than it was/did, and (iiuc) Craig et al decided not to.

@paulg Stiglitz is right. Berners-Lee should be a billionaire considering how many billionaires he has helped create. -
@TolisDimopoulos Should is very very different from could. -
-
@TolisDimopoulos That's like asking what he lacks that Messi has. Building a company is completely separate from designing a protocol. -
@paulg when Zuckerberg and Dorsey were building their companies they had no idea what they were doing. Just brains. Hindsight is 20/20. - 1 more reply

@paulg you don't think berners-lee could have patented www & nickled &dimed his way to billionairedom? -
-
@brlewis@paulg i don't disagree but i think there was scope for making it patented but freely licensed at a nominal fixed cost#justsaying -
@vijaygkg@paulg Even nominal royalties hinder adoption. This is written into W3C policy: http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Patent-Policy-20040205/#sec-Licensing …
