One of the most striking things about the Wright brothers' story is how many haters they had. Apparently they come with anything new.

@paulg Yep, plenty of haters. Also people with legitimate criticism we don't understand at first or don't want to hear, so worth reflection.
@andrewcatton The ratio becomes clear with time. In the Wrights' case the percentage with legitimate criticisms was 0.

@paulg Agreed on the Wrights & the long-term. Short-term, I worry talking about "haters" provides an excuse to reflexively avoid criticism. -
@andrewcatton@paulg it takes a careful balance between hubris and confidence to decide to either discount or agree with the haters, though.
