Talked to a programmer today who said AI coding tools made him about 10x more productive. Though 10 seems like a round number, this was an attempt at a precise estimate.

If that kind of increase in productivity were the norm, it would make starting a startup qualitatively different, because you could do with 8 programmers what would have taken 80, and a company with 8 programmers is much easier to fund and run than one with 80.

Maybe 10x isn't in fact the norm now. It sounded on the high side to me. But if it isn't, just wait a year.

I couldn't agree more! With AI, companies can automate tasks and processes, reducing the need for middle management. This means more efficient and agile companies that can adapt to change quickly.

Best value add is in the ‘I-know-what-I-need-to-do-but-forget-the-specifics’ for tasks like writing scripts etc. AI as a help has been a game changer. But coding is easy, software engineering is insanely hard

They /NEVER/ needed that many layers of management. The layers of management were a consequence of human nature and incentives, neither of which is changing.

I don’t think it eliminates. I think it elevates. Just my opinion after being allowed to enjoy it after not being given access to it for months.
