If you're trying to decide between two subjects to study and the one you're more interested in is also harder, it's probably the right choice.

Design Engineering or human geography? More interested in engineering but much much harder. Also I don’t come from an art or maths background, just fairly creative with ideas for things. Human geography is the safe option, always been good at it and cities really interest me

Given how easy it is to study subjects you’re interested in, my advice would be to pick whichever of the subjects your interested in that are most dependent on having been down the formal academic path. Most hackers shouldn’t bother with computer science.

Agree conditionally! The condition is brand value, I think it's probably still worthwhile to play the academic game if a student can attach themselves to a big name-brand school, CMU, MIT, Caltech, etc., networks are powerful and more gratifying than solo-ing it.

What if the field someone wants to enter consists of more than one subject? Naval often talks about the idea of specific knowledge.
