What does the concept of “emotional intelligence” mean to you? How would you describe it in plain English?
-
-
how would you describe the difference between empathy and compassion?
-
Compassion is hierarchical and empathy is equal. Compassion is a feeling while empathy is understanding the other by being in their shoes.

That’s a good one. Empathy for someone you disagree with also indicates emotional intelligence to me. So long as it’s not contrived & condescending.

Super wrong. And super common for people to assume this. Empathy is social intelligence. Emotional intelligence is understanding one's beliefs & desires to a point where one isn't perturbed by anything without knowing why it caused that to them.

@paulg For me”Emotional Intelligence is the ability to drive positive outcomes in high stakes situations without letting anyone’s hijacked emotions get in the way. “https://www.satishmummareddy.com/blog/definitive-guide-to-improving-emotional-intelligence …Thanks. Empathy alone doesn’t cut the mustard. It also takes good listening, awareness, and self-awareness skills.
-
Even if they aren't the exact same thing, there is a high correlation. The person who can empathize, will also have high emotional intelligence.
