"Take out all the boring bits" -> this has the highest product for (good writing advice) * (how reluctant I am to follow) I can intellectually know a paragraph is boring. But, damnit, it took hours to write. It feels like it _should_ be interesting (Worse with entire chapters.)
The really hard thing is to take out bits that aren't boring, but that it will still work without.

yeah, if you define "boring" as the least interesting/useful 20% of the text, you may want to cut quite a bit more than that.
