The United States makes brilliant people jump through so many stupid hoops to live and work here. It’s insane. Every country should be fighting over all of the top minds, and we make it extraordinarily difficult.

If the “Einstein visa” allows us to let in the creme de la creme, we might be more proactive using it to recruit.

Great essay
@paulg but disagree with your recommendation to crack down on consulting companies employing H-1Bs. A lot of great programmers and tech talent in general are employed on H-1Bs and cracking down on the visa category makes it harder for these folks as wellThanks. I agree with
@paulg that some H1B consultancy companies do abuse the system. It's rampant & very evident. Govt knows it but doesn't feel the need to do anything about it. But the lottery system is at the fault. No one should be depended on their "LUCK" to achieve American dreamThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Instead of bringing programmers to the US maybe the US companies should open more local hubs outside of the US?
-
Taking into account the cost of living, having hubs outside of the US may not be a bad idea.
