A lot of the added complexity comes from the fact that so many things have user accounts now. Your TV, your exercise cycle, your newspaper, your photo album, they all want to authenticate and bill you.

In what way are they not simple now? iPads, XBox, Nintendo Switches, etc. all seem pretty easy to set up.
-
A switch is hundreds of steps more complicated than something like an N64 just setting up accounts, wifi, credit cards, etc.

You forget waiting for the cable guy (or worse: the satellite guy) to come and hook up all the wiring, the box, and try to upsell you the movie channels.
-
I don’t think he forgot that, that’s not how TV worked when Paul and I were kids (same age, it turns out). You literally plugged it into an outlet and immediately you were watching TV.
