A data point about rewriting: the last essay I wrote (http://paulgraham.com/richnow.html ) took 27 days to write, and only one sentence in the final version is the same in the first draft.

Reading your essays is always enlightening. How probable do you think of history repeating itself in 10-20 years with the big tech companies becoming conglomerates and making it difficult for smaller companies to break-in. How to prevent it from happening?
I had a footnote about that but took it out. It's extremely unlikely. Economies of scale drove the last consolidation, and those are now available as a service via e.g. AWS.

Agree with the economies of scale point. But, I do see some possible issues with the big tech controlling distribution. Already there are noises I hear in India from the app companies not happy with the whims and fancies of Android/iios policies.

gov has been doing a good job cracking down on that so I don't think it should be much of a problem in the future
