As someone who was born in Russia & loves its culture so much, this breaks my heart. There was so much opportunity for democracy in 1990s Russia, but here we are. Seems like when you have chaos, a dictator will likely take over. Navalniy is incredibly brave.

I think the Kreml ideally doesn’t want him to die (otherwise he’ll be celebrated as a martyr, which might stoke further fires). However, if it goes on like this, this might end tragically.

That's one of the many less known Russian traditions, all tzars always treated political dissidents this way. It's just now we have more visibility into that

Thank you for mentioning Navalny. This man is a hero fighting not only for Russia, for the whole world. Criminal dictatorship in Russia is the main global threat. We can’t afford having biggest country in the world run by thieves and killers
