Inequality aside. Rich kids probably already have higher IQ. Early exceptional schooling have been shown to lead to better outcomes. However the most important inventors and founders typically come from humble backgrounds. Why?https://twitter.com/sentientist/status/1379207495311314946 …

When faced with the possibility that soon wealthy people could choose to have genetically smarter kids, it's fascinating that way more people are thinking "oh no! more terrible inequality" than are thinking "oh awesome, more geniuses to figure things out to make life better".

I think there simply isn't that much correlation between genius and family wealth, and since there are fewer rich families than normal ones, there are also fewer geniuses who grew up rich.

https://www.aei.org/society-and-culture/how-can-iq-be-heritable-for-rich-kids-and-not-for-poor-kids/ … that's correct—and furthermore if we want interventions in SES we'd probably better focus on lower income families anyway

the wealthy and the smart repeatedly find one another and assortively mate (more or less, race and language often mediate this too) or at least commune in business relations it's diamonds in the rough and cusp-elites where you can magnify unrealized potential

Kids from wealthy families are taught to focus on protecting their wealth.. and creating wealth out of wealth.. their problems are compounded when technology changes the battlefield completely.. correlation, causation..

Sure there is. You have to look at the mechanisms for how that genius manifests. I'm sure a lot of scientific geniuses would have preferred to be classically trained instead of constantly having to defend themselves against charlatans with pedigree.

Average joe just doesn't have appreciation for the type of genius that rich people care about. It's difficult for them to give that type of genius any weight.

The risk/reward ratio is different for children from wealthy families-- there is less incentive to risk an ego-depleting failure when one can live comfortably regardless.

Maybe genius requires stress to be created and wealth removes it.

Do you think there is a strong correlation between having a significantly higher IQ and startup success? Or is average intelligence combined with grit & a good understanding of the startup process enough? (...asking for a friend...)

I'm also guessing that above some threshold family wealth there are diminishing/no returns in terms of the quality of early schooling/mentoring a child receives.
