How to get good advice from experts: ask what they'd do in your situation. Many experts feel they should just tell you all the options and let you decide. But they usually know which is the right one, and asking what they'd do gives them permission to tell you.

I had a boss like that. He’s just say dont waste time, just ask first! He was mostly right!

V true, but follow-up Q: can we trust the advice if we can never fully explain our situation? Sometimes you might miss/forget a certain point of info that messes up their advice. (Asking this as the thinking above made me not 'believe' in advice anymore). Curious to know

Eggsplain your situation. Get one solution. Ask for cons of solution. This is as likely to remind you of anything you missed as making them go on and on about multiple options.

Also, when they give their opinion, don’t respond defensively. It’s okay to ask probing questions that express doubt. But, founders should take every opportunity to learn.

Genuine question: What are the boundary conditions of this? Are there certain situations where the right answer isn’t obvious, and so experts wouldn’t know it? For example, what about important political or economic decisions?

Or when the expert would do one thing, because they could pull it off, but an amateur couldn't.

It's all about feedback loops and exposure. Academia doesn't seem to care about whether their prescriptions work or not because it takes long for feedback, if it ever comes Real world practitioners are attentive to the situation at hand, and their advice is often contextual
