Agree. With a 3 & 5 year old I find myself thinking about this all the time. Have you thought about which kinds of colleges/universities, small v large, liberal arts v. engineering/STEM? Increasingly, I fear kids will need some sort of post-college funding to explore ideas?
It's up to them what kind of schools they go to and what they study. If it were up to me, I'd prefer big research universities, but I can't do more than make the case for why.

Agree. Also tremendous diversity of faculty & students. I think I prefer the MITs and CMUs of the world. More emphasis on smarts less on cultural accoutrements. Very little if any political correctness.

I wish for mine to learn to a skill - and to build. A research university fits for the right kid, and I'd be just as happy if they pursued a trade - glazing maybe.
