I’m decently exposed to smart successful people and not a single one of them wants their kids to go to college.

I want my kids to go to college. Universities don't have the monopoly on learning they used to, or the freedom of expression, but they're still a good place to explore ideas.

I think there is just more pressure on parents to prepare their kids to get value from college. Course selection and social skills dictate the experience.

Also you should not want to give up on unis. They have flaws but we can't just give up on them. They still house some of the best minds on the planet.

People seem to forget that university is about more than just textbooks and classes. The other stuff isn't really that much fun online or wherever else you may have in mind.

It depends on the major - some have more monopoly than others, especially non-STEM.

Totally agree. Obviously it's a luxury to be able to spend 4 years just studying something, but I think there's more to university than just what sort of job you get the other side.

Yep. Tech-y types are often anti-college because they get tunnel vision thinking about in stark, utilitarian terms. If we’re being honest the real value of college isn’t degree or skill-building, it’s having space as a young person to socialize and explore in general.

I tend to agree with this, and I think it will be interesting to see if a solution can be out there for this purpose alone, which would be paired with more efficient education.

Would love to see a more recent study (looks like it’s a decade old), but can’t find one. Expect that still to be the majority position, though.
