This article is deeply tendentious. Their beef is that the ACLU opposed Kavanaugh, and supported Stacey Abrams. And if you slogged through all that tripe, you get to the part where the article's author thinks the ACLU should support FIRE, and anti-trans laws. Sure, buddy.

This article makes some good points, but goes completely haywire near the end where the author falls prey to the same desire to use the ACLU for ideological purposes that the article is criticizing, just with a different ideology.
