We're starting to go native. Jessica now pronounces "vaccine" with the stress on the first syllable, and I just wrote "unrealised" before correcting it.

I fight for the "z"s every day
Weird situation isn't it? They start to look wrong, but you know how affected you'll seem if you give in, so you tell yourself "No, it doesn't look wrong!"

The z, and it's phonym, is such a perfect tool for transitive verbs: unique, scannable. I refuse to give them up.

As a Brit living in the US I tried to stick to 's' vs 'z' but it confused some people and they thought I was making sloppy spelling mistakes. I now tailor to the audience but I still like to slip in the majestic 'u' into colour every now and again as an act of defiance.
