No group in America is angrier at another group than the people at the 99.9th percentile of liberalism are at those at the 90th percentile. The people at the 50th percentile are unimaginable to the .1% and are therefore ignored, whereas those at the 90th read as backsliders.

Serious, genuine question: What is the best evidence for this statement? I have no idea how to measure anger in broad populations.

not sure who is angriest - but the graph of who is angry at who by percentile would be a fun visualisation!

Scott Alexander's "I can Tolerate Anything Except The Outgroup" comes to mind here. The 50th percentile aren't part of the outgroup because they are not sufficiently proximate. The 10 percenters on the other hand look exactly like the 1 percenters, hence the resentment.

Ah yes, the biggest troublemaker of our times: liberalism🙄 This is out of touch w how percentiles distribute as well as how to delineate between passion & fomented anger. The simple explanation is that people have 60y hindsight about how progress is made, and what holds it back.

Fundamentalism. Most commonly recognised in religion, but exists in every ideology.
