Recipe: 1. Write an essay. 2. Explain to a friend what you said in it. 3. Go back and rewrite it to say what you just said to your friend.

How much or how little do you care about the metrics of your essays? Do they inform you of anything meaningful?

You mean how many people read them? Yes, I've learned a lot. One of the first things I learned is that people are more likely to read something whose title begins with an interrogative adverb like "Why" or "How." Judging by titles I see now, it looks like everyone else has too.

Lists and "why" titles are indeed the top content online, followed by "how to" titles.

Same applies to book titles (at least according to the creator of "Little Blue Books")https://www.amazon.com/dp/0978388372

Personally I've been working on using questions (ie: "How Much Should a Chef Cost?") And using pattern interrupts ("Let the restaurants die; I said it and I meant it." Coming from a Chef makes people stop.) That said I know I'm not supposed to watch the views, but I do.
