I kinda was but now I'm scared
Compare it to some of the other mindsets that have prevailed in history. The crush-opponents mindset, the line-my-pockets mindset, the uphold-orthodoxy mindset, the sounds-good-to-me mindset. The engineering mindset doesn't look so bad by comparison.

A unique outcome of the engineering mindset is creating value through their problem solving attitude. All other mindsets here are seemingly zero-sum in nature.

Engineering mindset in many cases also includes an obstinate refusal to read manuals. To an engineer, the desire to derive solutions from first principles is attractive. After all, if you know math & physics, what engineering concept cannot be understand using first principles?

But when such a mindset is applied to fields outside of engineering, the information needed to solve issues is not well documented, often contradictory and in many cases, only obtainable by lived experience.
