It seems to be a very poisonous combination to be smart and ambitious and yet not to have achieved very much. Such people are both bitter and highly effective at realizing that bitterness.

adding ambitious really drives the point.

Yeah, the original version without that was wrong, because there are plenty of smart people who are happy not to achieve much. It's the ones who aren't who get bitter.

Hey, what about me? I’m not smart, but I’m still bitter! 😉

If you are solely focused on extreme outlier goals then you are reliant on luck in addition to skill along multiple axes. When you swing like that and miss it must be horribly disillusioning. Dice are fun in games but I wouldn't stake the house on them.

Maybe the poisonous combination is being smart, ambitious, not having achieved very much, and not understanding the probabilistic nature of success. Understanding this underlying element of success/failure drives humility which allows for grit and persistence.

“Me first” attitude and approach in everything they do destroys the trust of their teammates, peers and superiors. This over obsessed attitude also often blinds them to realities of a progressive work culture.

IMO That’s a generalization. a) Luck then hustle and then talent = achievement. If you don’t have luck (timing, black swans...) there’s no basis for bitterness. b) Achievement is in eye of beholder. A person may achieve a lot in eyes of many & still be dissatisfied, bitter. (Trmp

I guess trump is kinda disqualified when you consider the smartness quotient in the original sentiment... luck/timing really does make a lot of people bitter too - because it played against them and bruises the ego...

Is smart really a requirement? It seems to me that it's being ambitious and a lack of achievement that leads to bitterness and its manifestations.

Sometimes I just get tired of always trying to prove myself for people. Then get on a new team and have to start over. It drains you to constantly work so hard, never get the reward of moving up. Sometimes they keep you doing the work because your good at it. It gets frustrating
