This HN thread demonstrates just how ineffective these 100s of millions of $$$ have been at educating even the techie crowd on the current state of quantum computer R&D. It’s full of misinformation, inaccurate optimism, and inaccurate pessimism. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26554065 …

Wrong: QC is “theoretical”/“unproven”, not distinguishing physical & logical qubits, QC solves NP-hard problems, anything Bitcoin, “most things about QC are unknown”, we’ll have a 10^6 qubits in 5 years Right: very large QC haven’t been demo’d, the paper is currently out of reach

(Scott Aaronson recently posted to his blog, somewhat calling for a bit more cautiousness, and warning us that even top, respected scientists are making bogus claims. But it’s important to also see that more caution doesn’t imply we should be pessimistic) https://www.scottaaronson.com/blog/?p=5387
