In our chaos, are we Rome or Constantinople, teetering on the brink as the Western Roman Empire in the 5th Century AD, or able to recalibrate and last for another 1,000 years in the East as the Byzantines?
Things aren't as bad as in 5th century Rome. The world was teetering on the brink far more in 1940 than it is today, and even that wasn't as bad.

A lot of people thought war in Europe was impossible in 1913. Don’t judge tomorrow just by today. You have to factor in the trajectory, at a minimum.
