I would probably worry more about general AI if I had any idea what its effects would be, but it's hard to worry about something unimaginable. Unimaginable and inevitable is a pretty weird combination.

General AI is imaginable in the sense that I can imagine some aspects of a world with it. But I know I'm not foreseeing all of them, and frankly I doubt anyone could. There would be so many knock-on effects. It would be like predicting turbulent flow.

We paint pretty pessimistic pictures of what AI could be. It's often portrayed as something that'll harm humans or take over the world. There isn't enough positive portrayal showcasing how it can better the lives of people & advance society.

My prediction is A.I. will first unleash an amazing amount of prosperity on humanity. Especially once the A.I. can program itself we will have endless abundance. The A.I. will be subservient to humans. Wealth taxes will be imposed on A.I. companies to spread A.I. ownership.

Then it becomes a question if the A.I. can be maintained as subservient to humans and used to improve our happiness or if it will gain control and keep us in a zoo or worse.

The outcomes may be unimaginable but some of the tools are a bit more obvious. Manipulation being the most obvious. Higher IQ humans will watch this work from the bottom up, like watching a water level rise. Already happening in advertising, although def not general AI

For example an altruistic genera AI would have had near perfect mask compliance by identifying exactly how to motivate everyone, even people in Florida.
