You shouldn't cancel historical figures for saying things that most other people in their time also believed. Otherwise your cancellation algorithm reduces to: cancel writers.

Trouble is people will bite that bullet and be fine with that. They'll just say that if past writers are harmful, so be it. To make the perfect future, we may have to let go of most everything from a flawed past.
I'm not worried about those people. They're already lost. I only care about convincing the reasonable people in the middle.

There is little evidence that the reasonable people will win, both historically and currently. Furthermore, most smart, reasonable people hold ideas about human nature that are flawed, which leads them to believe in flawed solutions.
