Don't collect celebrity investors. It's not a predictor of success. In fact, it may be a predictor of failure, because it's a sign that founders (a) lack confidence and (b) prefer fundraising to building stuff.

You do know founds look at you and YC as celebrity investors right?! :-) If the “celebrity” can bring early users, team members, and signal quality to down stream investors it is worth it... by having Travis on @TWiStartups early, we landed the first three city GMS (for example)

There's also a huge difference in the advice you get / read from Current YC partners and that you get from @paulg and @jesslivingston . I think the type of celebrity VC is also to be considered. Celebrity VCs by circumstance and celebrity VCs due to past contribution.

I know that isn't true, because when I talk to startups that YC has funded in recent years, I never find myself disagreeing with the advice they've been given by their group partners.

I've never disagreed with advice from YC partners either, it's always resulted in improved approaches to problems. I do think it's different to what I said though. All YC partners (inc. past) give good advice. Some give excellent advice. A few give very specific rare advice.

I shouldn't have used the world 'current' in my OP. It mislead the point. I do think that what I'm saying is true though. YC founders undoubtedly have their preferred YC partners.
