It depends on what the project is. Some things are best done by for-profit companies and some by nonprofits. There are lots of surprises at the border though. E.g. Manara is for-profit, though their goal is benevolent, because charging money makes students take it more seriously.
Incidentally, I recommend gradually focusing more on nonprofits instead of waiting till 65. Like investing, it's something you have to learn to do well. Better to start learning now than at 65.

Do you guys have foundations over there? Putting some of your investments in a foundation and using that to do your philanthropy is a great flywheel. Get your kids involved in the donating bit, you look after the investing bit for now.
