Rereading Francis Bacon's essays. The first time I read them, long ago, I was dutifully reading a Great Book. Now I feel more like a football player watching game videos. See what he did right there? I wish I could read every book this way.

The worst thing about experience and knowledge is the inevitable diminishing rate of discovery. When you're 10 everything is new and an adventure. Then you get to a point where everything is in a box and you skim and listen at high speed in hopes of encountering new information.
In some fields the rate of discovery increases. For example, the more history you know, the easier it is to learn more, because you have a bigger tree to hook new facts onto.

One would think that the more you know the easier it is to learn a defined concept, but the experience of learning is polluted with encountering more things you already know in the process. One reason people like travel may be the avalanche of newness.
