AWS operated for 7 years without any competition. That's a hallmark of a non-obvious invention. If you watch early AWS pitch, even Amazon didn't know what it really was.

Strangely enough it was more Replit we were working on. We'd have had to figure out some way to manage end-user processes a la AWS in order to make it work, but that didn't seem like the interesting part.
