If this were actual Google policy, I'd be the first to jump on them. But my guess is that it's just the opinion of some Google employee about what they should do, not what they actually do do. When something is too indignation-inducing to be true, it usually isn't.

People have brought this up before - it's almost certainly just picking up [African] American Inventors. Google "famous inventors" and you get the expected array of old white guys.
