Since it's World Book Day, here are some of the best books I've read recently: I Want to be a Mathematician, by Paul Halmos Barbarian Days, by William Finnegan From Galileo to Newton, by Rupert Hall The British Industrial Revolution in Global Perspective, by Robert Allen

Replying to @paulg
I picked that Paul Halmos book off the shelf at my library years ago when I should have been studying for a math stats final and found it so enjoyable I finished it right there. Procrastination in the stacks is something I really miss.

What's the book about

It's his autobiography, he talks about immigrating Hungary and going to school, PhD work, and his work as mathematician. It's really insightful, he's very modest, it gave me confidence that the really smart guys aren't always sure they can accomplish amazing things either.
