I think the sweet spot must be evergreen content + accomplish a few big things Just read
@paulg’s essay on “Cities And Ambition” and the writing quality is next level But we read his essays because of the things he did in his career
That wasn't why people originally read them. When I started writing essays, I don't think many people had heard of me outside the Lisp world. If I had to guess why people read them, it was because they were basically addressed to Slashdot users, and little else was then.
