It remains bizarre to me that the entire discourse around speech, offense, taboos, accountability etc seems to completely ignore that we had an *extremely* similar set of debates about this in 1990s around "political correctness." It was a whole thing!

One inbetween factor to consider: Some minorities are more vocal &/or visible more than others, & some of them have radical views. I’m a minority who used to have more radical views, & I gave advice to well-intentioned peers from my own perspective. This happens online too.

But aren't those celebrity voices also buoyed by Likes from affected individuals? Obviously Twitter/media celebrities make the most noise, but those retweets/views come from affected individuals.
