I find it very wrong to suggest that the only acceptable way to end global poverty is to reduce global inequality. It is wrong to make the chance of poor people leaving poverty behind conditional on an extremely optimistic scenario of the future of inequality.

When people advocate this path, it's a sign that they care more about reducing inequality than reducing poverty.

I don’t think many people do this. But it’s been a fun straw man.

Is the better model then creating equal opportunity? I guess this is what crypto fundamentally enables.

For folks on this thread, i think Maxs data is a good source of evidence for why poverty and equality may be inversely related. https://link.medium.com/iGNgW8cj4db  Max, fwiw, Jon Haidt has done good research on the psychology of folks who prioritize equality over all else

          2. heres the takeaway from the research, “On average, a 10 point increase in the Gini coefficient (corresponding to shifting from the level of inequality in Latvia to Kenya) decreases the time required to buy a kilo of rice by 7 minutes”

Education, more opportunity, and knowledge will end poverty. As a second or third order consequence.

This 'path' or argument is typical development sector rhetoric with an emotional bias which a lot of wonderful people pick (emotional bias works), often without much thought. There are many paths to reducing poverty which probably should be the focus.

Reducing inequality is usually associated with government redistribution. Economic growth is usually associated with free enterprise. Thus the rhetoric of "reducing inequality" is much more appealing to the average politician to seize more power.
