Note also: you can’t be a good writer until you’re a clear thinker.

Aren't this one of the byproducts of writing?

Astute observation. How about song writers and other short form writers? Could an original quip be so perfect that the need for a rewrite is obviated?

I've heard it said that Shakespeare often went with first drafts of large sections of his plays. Other than that, have never heard of a serious writer who didn't rewrite (though I've met students who hated writing so much they just handed in the first draft).

Asimov? https://longreads.com/2013/11/09/isaac-asimovs-rules-for-writing-and-revising/ … I guess this goes under "there are nine and ninety ways of composing tribal lays / and every single one of them is right."

Pg, it will be so insightful to learn what goes behind each pg essay. Things like multiple drafts, time it took to write each draft, spacing between each draft, tools used for writing.

I rarely write multiple, separate drafts. I write a first version, backtracking a lot in the process, and then I spend a long time fixing it. Maybe 2 days per page on average. Tools used for writing: vim.
