We should be more explicitly in favour of growth. The cruel reality that some children are born into a rich place and others are born into a poor place is due to the fact that some countries achieved growth and others not. Economic growth is what we need to end this injustice.https://twitter.com/MaxCRoser/status/1362721948564914188 …

A new version of this chart that maps the extremely unequal world that children are born into. A child born into a rich country has an advantage in both ways: it likely survives and is born into a society where incomes are more than 70-times higher than in the poorest countries. pic.twitter.com/Jv763PFYeT

You should write the essay that explains this in about 5 paragraphs.

It’s hard for me to to tell how much this is embraced in our educational system, but it’s certainly being discussed in my Midwest state.https://twitter.com/ConceptualJames/status/1362087758966231043 …

When I say that the goal of Critical Race Theory is to move the United States in the direction of South Africa, I mean that literally. It's an aspirational goal. @MaxCRoser It would be interesting to explore the costs of growth. Many of the rich countries achieved their riches by exploiting (directly or indirectly) the poorer countries in the chart. For the poor countries, what is the cost of their growth now?

The challenge is explaining why bad institutions will perennially keep the brakes on growth (I know, having been born in Brazil).

Growth —> wealth —> options. To maximize options, maximize growth. So whatever you want as the Good/Goods (freedom, equal opportunity, equal outcome, art, science, tech, work, leisure, nature, tradition, etc.), with whatever weighting, you’ll have more resources to achieve it.

This gives people & places the choice of what to pursue. A race of spacefaring transhumanists isn’t for everyone, but it is for me, and we’ll need a lot of research & resources to get there. Maximizing sustainable growth matters because humanity is so, so far from its potential.

Curious how much economic growth there is left during the sixth mass extinction and the climate emergency we are in...

Seems to me, the rich part of the world needs to give to the poor part of the world.
