How do you avoid falling in love with your art / work? A healthy distance between a work and its author seems to always encourage mental health.

Do you mean work in the sense of the kind of work you do, or work in the sense of an individual work? Seems fine to fall in love with the former. Do you worry about falling in love with the latter, because it might make you less critical, and thus tolerate mistakes?

I’m in pain right now because I fell in love with my work and it’s been a really painful thing the last little bit. I’ve been working on side projects which I’m less enamored with and feel more effective. The latter you’re spot on. I’ve been too close to pieces before.

Painful because the work isn't going well?
