Yeah, totally I want jobs above family, friends and communal ties. Can’t wait to make all my friends in my high paying job!
That's partly because people live longer, and partly because people have more career options, both of which are good.

In a way, a sad lonely life also full of mental problems, anxiety and financial insecurity also creates jobs. Booming farmaceutical industry!

But also partly because "larger and higher purposes" are now in tatters with no real future prospects. As well as "all this will be yours" has intimate connection to particular land and estates...that has faded away in our transient economic life. Both of which are bad.
